Tree of Life and Goh (Monitor Lizard) in Gond by Saroj Venkat Shyam

In this striking Gond painting, artist Saroj Venkat Shyam weaves together nature and wildlife through bold lines and vibrant detail. Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is animate and sacred.

At the heart of the composition stands a dual-trunked tree, its bark rendered in vivid orange and black stripes, drawing the viewer’s eye upward to a canopy of blue-green leaves. Nestled within this organic form is the presence of a goh (monitor lizard), slinking beneath the roots, becoming part of the tree’s ecosystem. The artwork reflects the Gond belief that all elements of nature are alive and sacred. The tree, often seen as a source of life, shelter and continuity, shares space with the goh, an animal associated with both earth energy and spiritual symbolism. The artist meaningfully incorporates her stylistic pattern, 'Naag', seeking inspiration from Naagvanshi or serpentile movement of the snake, highly revered amidst the tribe.

The lizard’s placement suggests a grounding force, as if it anchors the vibrant life blooming above. Using strong, rhythmic patterns and contrasting colours, the painting communicates a sense of harmony between living beings and their habitats. The branches spread like veins, echoing the interconnectedness of all things. This composition is both meditative and powerful, capturing the essence of Gond cosmology, where flora and fauna are equal participants in the grand cycle of life.

We ship worldwide, Our Prices are inclusive of GST/Taxes in India. For international orders, any specific custom duties you may encounter in your home country during the delivery has to borne by the buyer.

For all artworks except Lippan and Terracotta, we offer free shipping on orders above ₹999, a ₹249 flat rate is applicable to smaller order amounts.

Our standard shipping rates are not applicable for custom framed artworks.

For international artwork orders shipping charges of 4000 INR* are applicable.

For Lippan and Terracotta Artworks, We charge a Shipping rate on a per Kilogram basis.

All artworks are packed and couriered securely in a tube.

Ready To Ship/ In Stock artworks are shipped in under 2 weeks. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/ In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.

Made To Order artworks will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped once they are ready. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.

Once your order is placed, our team will stay in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
