This complex Madhubani painting by Pratima Bharti depicts a forest that represents the interconnectedness of all living beings and the abundance of nature. Madhubani art is a vibrant folk painting tradition from the Mithila region of India, renowned for its intricate geometric patterns, bold colors and symbolic depictions of mythology and nature. The composition is perfectly symmetrical, creating a sense of divine order and ecological harmony.

The central piece is a massive, stylized tree that branches out to fill the upper half of the canvas. The trunk is rendered with vertical Kachni (fine-line) patterns, while its branches curve elegantly to support a variety of life forms. At the very center, nestled within the branches, is a vibrant Sun motif, symbolizing the source of all energy and growth. In Mithila culture, the Sun (Surya) is a primary deity. Its presence in a household painting is believed to bring longevity, health and the removal of darkness or obstacles.

Two large peacocks are perched on the main branches on either side, their plumage fanning out in brilliant greens. In Madhubani art, peacocks symbolize romantic love and auspiciousness. Below the tree, four elephants are shown in profile. They walk toward the center, representing strength and wisdom. Their bodies are decorated with intricate floral and geometric internal patterns. The bottom of the painting features a river or pond, teeming with life - fish, lotus blooms, aquatic plants,etc. Fish are a powerful symbol of fertility and prosperity in the Mithila tradition. Two small birds are perched by the lotus at the center.

The artwork is a vibrant example of the Bharni style, balanced with meticulous line-work. The water is rendered using repetitive wavy lines, while the leaves of the tree are individual gray strokes that create a dense, textured canopy. Every element on the left is mirrored on the right, which is a traditional technique used to evoke a sense of peace and cosmic balance.

The scene is enclosed in a complex, multi-layered border. The primary border consists of square panels, each containing a four-petaled flower in alternating colors. Bands of multicolored triangles and fine hatching separate the main scene from the border. The triangles are used to depict water chestnuts, found abundantly in the region. A solid black border provides a clean, formal finish, containing the vibrant energy of the diverse ecosystem within.

Framing Services

No, we currently sell artworks unframed (unless explicitly mentioned otherwise) and do not provide framing services.

We ship worldwide. All artworks are handmade and couriered securely in transit safe packaging sutaible for the artwork.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

Returns and Replacements

We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.

Delivery Timeline

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 1-2 weeks to be made and shipped.

Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.

All MeMeraki artworks are hand-painted. In rare occasions, artist may face delays due to weather, health, prior commitments or force majeure. Our team will reach out to you with revised timelines in case of such delays. We appreciate your understanding and patience in such situations.
