This Pichwai painting by artist Trilok Soni presents Lord Krishna standing in a classic tribhanga posture, playing his flute under a kadamba tree, with his garments and decorative garlands incorporating miniature depictions of the various swaroops (divine forms and adhyatmik shringars) of Shrinathji, a seven-year old manifestation of Krishna. Rooted in the Pushtimarg tradition of Nathdwara, Rajasthan, the composition weaves together devotional iconography, intricate miniature detailing, and idyllic pastoral surroundings.
The central figure of Krishna is rendered in a radiant sky-blue complexion, adorned with an ornate gold mukut (crown) topped with peacock feather motifs, layered jewelry and a yellow dhoti (pitambar). Cascading over his shoulders and body are elaborate textiles and garlands lined with delicate circular medallions. Each miniature medallion contains a meticulously painted swaroop or festive shringar of Shrinathji, representing different ritual dressings and sacred manifestations celebrated throughout the Pushtimarg calendar.
Set against a vibrant crimson red ground, the composition is anchored by a dark-trunked kadamba tree with dense foliage framing the upper left. At Krishna’s feet, white cows gaze up in devotion, their bodies adorned with saffron handprints, representing the presence of Krishna and highlighting his role as Gopala or protector of cows, alongside peacocks displaying their plumage. The foreground features the calm waters of Yamuna filled with lotus blooms and aquatic birds, while the upper horizon displays grazing white cows, bringing together the pastoral tranquility of Braj with the ritual devotion of Nathdwara.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
