The skillful artist, Ishwar Naik's Chittara Art, "A Marriage Hall in Yellow," offers a vibrant glimpse into the rich tapestry of the Deevaru community's traditions. This autochthonous art practice captures the essence of a matriarchal and agrarian society residing around Sagar. The painting, adorned in a warm yellow palette, vividly depicts a wedding hall, complete with intricate details of the mantap, the couple, and their guests. At the heart of the composition, the sacred altar becomes the focal point, where the bride and groom receive blessings from their community. Chittara, predominantly embraced by the community's women, reflects a microcosm of socio-cultural dynamics, celebrating nature worship and ancient traditions through its distinctive motifs and colors.

Chittara art is a traditional tribal art form originating from the Deevaru community in the Sagara region of Karnataka, India. This ceremonial painting style, primarily created by women, is renowned for its geometric precision, symmetrical motifs, and deep symbolism, reflecting themes of nature, everyday life, and spiritual beliefs. Traditionally drawn on red mud walls during festivals, weddings, and agricultural rituals to invoke prosperity and divine blessings, Chittara art utilizes 100% natural, eco-friendly materials such as rice paste for white, laterite soil for red, charcoal for black, and turmeric paste for yellow, applied with brushes made from Areca nut tree sticks.
