This exquisite wooden art piece is a remarkable portrayal of the head of the divine essence and grace of Lord Shiva, the god of the universe- the creator, preserver and destroyer.
The sculpture is crafted from kumble wood, botanically known as Gmelina arborea. This material is known for its lightweight and durable qualities, making it an ideal medium for intricate carvings. Sourced from the deciduous trees of the southern Indian subcontinent, particularly Kerala, kumble wood has a long-standing tradition in temple architecture and the creation of deity sculptures, imbuing this artwork with profound spiritual significance.
In this detailed sculpture, the head of Shiva is being sculpted. Shiva is one of the trinity of the universe. His head is being depicted resting on a lotus pedestal. The lotus here signifies purity, growth, fortune, prosperity and feminine energy. The facial features of the god exude a sense of calmness. His face, with almond-shaped eyes, a long nose and fuller lips, contributes to an expression that invites devotion and reverence. He is shown wth three eyes- one on his forehead- symbolising his absolute knowledge, destruction of illusion and desire and his mind power. His hair is tied up in a bun with a rudraksamala. His jata is a reflection of the universe he carries with him. He is adorned with an array of intricate ornaments, including ornamented earrings and layers of rudraksamala on his neck. The rudraksamala is symbolic of cosmic time, order, detachment and asceticism. He is bare-bodied. Around his neck, his naga, a serpent- Vasuki- is shown symbolising fearlessness, time and divine protection.
Behind his sculptural body, a halo frames the god and supports the sculptural body as well. The meticulous carving and chiselling on the wood display an extraordinary level of detail. This artwork stands as a profound representation of divinity, grace and the nurturing power of Lord Shiva.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
