This Chamba Rumal embroidery by artist Anjali Vakil portrays a serene devotional scene from the life of Lord Krishna. The artwork is meticulously hand-embroidered on a cream-colored khaddar (cotton) base using the traditional do-rukha (double-sided) satin stitch, which ensures the patterns appear identical on both the front and the back of the fabric.
At the heart of the composition, Lord Krishna is shown at the center with his classic blue skin and a vibrant yellow dhoti. He is adorned with a peacock feather in his crown and is depicted holding a lotus flower while standing beneath the spreading branches of a stylized tree. While the gopis stand in attendance, they are captured in a moment of quiet, symmetrical poise.
The scene is balanced by four gopis, two on either side of Krishna, each dressed in traditional tunics and skirts featuring varied geometric and floral patterns. The tree behind Krishna serves as a central vertical axis, with its branches filled with pink and purple blossoms, while a separate flowering vine with yellow and purple flowers adds further natural detail to the right. The entire narrative is enclosed within a highly decorative rectangular border featuring a winding vine and five-petaled flowers, bringing together the aesthetics of the entire artwork.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Chamba Rumal is an exquisite double-sided hand-embroidered textile art form originating from the Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, India, dating back to the late 16th century. Often called the "painted handkerchief of Himachal," it is characterized by its flawless, identical finish on both sides of fine muslin or silk fabric, achieved using vibrant silk threads and stitches like satin, stem, and buttonhole. Influenced by Pahari miniature painting, this royal legacy art form depicts intricate scenes from Hindu epics, Radha-Krishna tales, and natural motifs, carrying deep spiritual and cultural meaning. Each piece reflects precision, patience, and artistic understanding passed down through generations of Himachali artisans.
