This vibrant Gond painting by Kailash Pradhan depicts an elephant. Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is animate and sacred.
At the center of the composition is the elephant, its majestic form brought to life through bold lines and intricate patterns. Adorned in a symphony of colors like oranges, blues and greens, the elephant becomes a captivating fusion of tradition and contemporary expression.
This painting showcases three of Kailash Pradhan's signature styles, the unique star- shaped pattern, called "Cher Chera", inspired by the Gond community's Cherchera festival; Parsa Paan pattern which resembles betel leaves, which are offered as a symbol of respect at significant events like weddings and social gatherings, and are also used in traditional medicine for digestion and respiratory issues amidst the Gond tribe; and the Khaddar pattern, inspired by the fibres of Khadi cotton cloth.
The artist's skillful strokes convey not only the grandeur of the elephant but also the rich storytelling tradition embedded in the cultural canvas of Gond art.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
