In a single, mesmerizing piece, master Gond artist Braj Bhooshan Dhurwey invites us on a cosmic journey through the Teen Lok, or the three worlds of Hindu cosmology. Rooted in Central India, Gond art is a tribute to nature, where the Gond tribes express their deep reverence through intricate geometric patterns of lines, dots, and dashes. The painting is a vibrant tapestry that depicts three distinct realms, starting with the Swarg Lok (Heaven), where a celestial dance of stars, the sun, and the moon unfolds. The sun, revered as Surya Dev, radiates light, energy, and life, while the moon, Chandra Dev, represents peace, intuition, and coolness.
The second realm, Mrityu Lok (Earth), bursts with life. This is the world of all living beings—birds, trees, and animals—where life and death form an eternal cycle. Dhurwey paints this world in stunning hues of green, red, brown, yellow, and pink, creating a vibrant collage of lions, deers, peacocks, and snakes. His signature patterns, like the 'Half Juda' and 'Machli ka Jaal', infuse the animals with a dynamic sense of life and motion.
Beneath the surface lies Patal Lok (Netherworld), home to various mythological beings like the Danavas, Daityas, Yakshas, and Nagas (snake-people).
