This Gond painting by Kailash Pradhan depicts a stylised tiger in profile, its elongated body serving as a living perch for two small birds, creating a harmonious composite that symbolises coexistence and interdependence among species.
Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is animate and sacred.
The tiger’s form stretches horizontally across the surface in a calm, walking posture, its head simplified into a rounded muzzle and single almond-shaped eye that conveys alert gentleness rather than ferocity. Its body is divided into patterned zones filled with dense Gond motifs—scalloped scales, dotted constellations, chevrons, and fine linear hatchings—transforming the animal’s fur into a richly textured ornamental field. Warm ochres, reds, and pinks are balanced against cooler blues and greens, while bright orange contours articulate the segmentation and guide visual rhythm along the body and limbs.
Perched lightly along the tiger’s back are two stylised birds, rendered in cool blue tonalities with patterned wings that echo the tiger’s textures. Their small scale and poised stance suggest trust and symbiosis, visually expressing the Gond worldview in which animals share mutual relationships rather than hierarchical dominance. The birds also animate the tiger’s spine line, adding vertical accents that counterbalance the horizontal sweep of the feline form.
This painting showcases three of Kailash Pradhan’s signature styles, the unique star-shaped pattern called “Cher Chera,” inspired by the Gond community’s Cherchera festival; the Parsa Paan pattern resembling betel leaves, offered as a symbol of respect at significant events and used in traditional medicine within the Gond tribe; and the Khaddar pattern inspired by the fibres of handspun Khadi cotton cloth.
Through the gentle interaction between predator and birds, the tiger becomes not merely a symbol of strength but a sustaining ground for other life forms—an image of ecological balance and shared existence central to Gond cosmology.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
