Van Deviyan: Goddesses of Forest in Gond by Venkat Shyam

Introducing a mesmerizing Gond painting by the master artist Venkat Shyam as he portrays the mystical Van Deviyan, or forest goddesses, in a stunning composition that celebrates the sacred bond between womanhood and nature. 

Set against a rich red backdrop that heightens the spiritual vibrancy, the central figures—three female deities—are gracefully intertwined with the curving trunks and branches of a flourishing tree, symbolizing their inseparable connection to the forest. Their elongated limbs and sinuous postures flow seamlessly into the tree’s structure, blending human and arboreal forms into one organic entity. 

Each goddess is uniquely colored—one in soft pink, another in leafy green, and the third in earthy ochre—echoing the diversity and life force of the natural world. The foliage above them bursts with tiny, detailed leaves and butterfly-like forms in warm yellows and oranges, exuding a sense of abundance, transformation, and divine fertility. The tree’s trunk is richly patterned in fine black-and-white lines, which on a close look are formed by concentric half circles (his signature pattern, a symbol of the half moon and village and community) and dots (Venkat Shyam's inspiration, sought from the point of origin of the universe and Supreme God), a hallmark of the Gond tradition, representing rhythm, life cycles, and continuity. 

The goddesses’ expressive eyes are painted with serene intensity, reflecting their guardianship, wisdom, and sacred femininity. This work is not just an aesthetic marvel but a spiritual narrative that enshrines tribal beliefs where forests are alive with divine presence and feminine energy. Through intricate detailing, harmonious color play, and mythical symbolism, Venkat Shyam revives and reimagines Gond cosmology, inviting viewers into a world where trees are goddesses, and divinity breathes through nature.

We ship worldwide, Our Prices are inclusive of GST/Taxes in India. For international orders, any specific custom duties you may encounter in your home country during the delivery has to borne by the buyer.

For all artworks except Lippan and Terracotta, we offer free shipping on orders above ₹999, a ₹249 flat rate is applicable to smaller order amounts.

Our standard shipping rates are not applicable for custom framed artworks.

For international artwork orders shipping charges of 4000 INR* are applicable.

For Lippan and Terracotta Artworks, We charge a Shipping rate on a per Kilogram basis.

*Extra charges may apply for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• International artwork orders where the artwork's smaller side measures more than 36 inches.
• Extra charges are applicable for Express Shipping. Contact support to check availability for your order.

All artworks are packed and couriered securely in a tube.

Ready To Ship/ In Stock artworks are shipped in under 2 weeks. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/ In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.

Made To Order artworks will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped once they are ready. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.

Once your order is placed, our team will stay in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
