Pattachitra, which literally means "cloth painting," is a traditional art form from Odisha and West Bengal known for its intricate details, mythological narratives, and vibrant colors. This ancient form of visual storytelling is rooted in sacred rituals and often depicts scenes from Hindu epics and the lives of deities like Lord Krishna.
This artwork is a beautiful example of Odisha Pattachitra painting, presented as a set of three decorative plates.
The top plate features a deep green background. A large tree with a vibrant pink canopy dominates the center, with yellow figures of a leopard and a deer on either side. The border is a brilliant yellow with a detailed red and orange swirling pattern.
The second plate has a deep blue background. A large green tree is the central motif, with a blue elephant and a white deer standing on either side. This plate is also framed by a decorative yellow border.
The plate at the bottom has a striking red-orange background. A small green tree with a brown trunk is featured, flanked by a white cow and a golden-yellow deer. This plate also has a yellow border with a similar design.
The entire set is characterized by its bold, two-dimensional figures, intricate patterns, and a rich color palette, which are all hallmarks of Pattachitra art.
