Bio | Hemant Kumawat is a sixth-generation Rajasthani miniature painter who hails from a family with a rich artistic legacy, originally known for carving and painting on stone. Over time, the family transitioned to working on cloth and paper, continuing their traditional practices using only natural colours derived from stones, plants, and forest materials. The women in the family actively contribute by helping process these natural colours at home. Hemant, a recipient of the prestigious Prafulla Dahanukar Award, creates commissioned works and exhibits his paintings, with art galleries and the hotel industry among his regular clientele. He also conducts workshops for students of interior and fashion design, where he teaches the preparation of canvas and colours, along with traditional painting techniques. Through these sessions, participants also gain an immersive experience of Rajasthani culture. A distinctive feature of Hemant’s art is his black and white themed compositions, often accented with just a touch of colour. His work frequently centers on nature and subtly conveys messages about environmental conservation. |
