The handcrafted chessboard from Kerala is a remarkable example of coconut shell craft, blending tradition with ingenuity. Made entirely from carved coconut shells, the black squares and pieces are shaped from mature shells, while the white ones use tender shells, creating a natural contrast. Using traditional Ayurvedic and hereditary techniques, the curved shells are flattened and precisely cut to form the board. A specially designed cheppu (container) stores the pieces. The chessboard was designed over the course of six months.
These artworks are exclusive national award winning pieces and are available for view and purchase for the very first time for NCR residents at ‘Kaarigar Sangam at the Kunj’ and are exclusively available for patrons outside Delhi through MeMeraki. These are being sold at no commission and are inclusive of GST , however shipping and packaging will be charged separately. Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
