The unique collection of 120 handcrafted Dashabatar cards, represents a rich blend of artistry and mythology rooted in Bengal’s cultural heritage. Each card is painstakingly made using cotton cloth, tamarind seed adhesive, chalk dust, paint, and lacquer. Painted on each card are the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu—Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Ram, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki—each brought to life with vivid detail and colour. Originating in Bishnupur, West Bengal, Dashabatar cards can be traced back to the 1590s when King Bir Hambir introduced the game, inspired by the Mughal Ganjifa cards from Emperor Akbar’s court. Once a popular pastime in Bengal, the craft of making these cards is now endangered, standing as a poignant symbol of Bengal’s rich folk traditions and storytelling.
These artworks are exclusive national award winning pieces and are available for view and purchase for the very first time for NCR residents at ‘Kaarigar Sangam at the Kunj and are exclusively available for patrons outside Delhi through MeMeraki. These are being sold at no commission and are inclusive of GST , however shipping and packaging will be charged separately. Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
