This framed Koftgiri masterpiece by Dr. Shyamlata Gahlot is a masterful preservation of Udaipur’s royal weaponry tradition, centered on a ceremonial Khanjar (dagger) that serves as a canvas for a rich "Shikar" or hunting narrative. The hilt is exceptionally crafted in the shape of an tiger's head, a regal motif symbolizing strength, with fine silver wire defining the curves and the stripes.
Moving down to the scabbard, the dark, matte steel is brought to life with a vivid forest scene where tigers are depicted in a stylized, high-action pursuit of deer amidst a dense thicket of scrolling silver vines. These figures are not merely surface decorations; through the "Teh-Tula" technique, the silver is hammered so deeply into the cross-hatched steel that the animals and flora appear as a seamless, three-dimensional part of the metal. Set against a striking cream and red background—a color chosen to represent the bravery of the Rajput warriors—the piece creates a powerful contrast that highlights the intricate, shimmering details of the silver work, transforming a historic symbol of war into a sophisticated work of modern fine art.
