This wonderful Cheriyal mask by Sai Kiran is part of Telangana’s storytelling tradition, crafted using tamarind seed paste, cloth and paper and painted with bold lines so that expressions remain powerful during performance. Each mask is designed to instantly communicate a character’s nature through color, features and symbolic details.
This mask presents a striking blue face with wide, intense eyes and a heavy black moustache. The long white tusks curve outward, giving the face a fierce, theatrical presence. Small horns rise from the head, while the red tongue stretches downward, marked with a black scorpion. The skull-shaped earrings add an unsettling detail, hinting at themes of danger, memory and the unseen. Its wide, unflinching eyes and exaggerated features echo the kolli kannu of Drishti paintings, where seeing and being seen becomes a quiet act of protection. Like the guardian faces once painted on Tamil Nadu’s walls, this mask turns bold imagery into a watchful presence that marks space and absorbs unseen harm.
In a story, this character becomes the Keeper of Secrets, a spirit who knows every hidden truth in the village. It is said that he appears in dreams when someone carries guilt or hides a lie. The scorpion on his tongue symbolizes the sting of truth: painful at first, but necessary. By facing what they conceal, people free themselves from his haunting gaze and the village returns to peace.

Returns and Replacements

Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
