The Kunj is a landmark initiative of the Ministry of Textiles, led by the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts. The concept & strategy for the Kunj was visualised by the Asian Heritage Foundation, brought to life through the curation and design by Cultre and marketed by MeMeraki.
Conceived as both a cultural beacon and a dynamic commercial hub, The Kunj is a space that brings India’s vast and diverse craft traditions into the heart of the capital in a way that is both contemporary and timeless. More than a retail or exhibition venue, The Kunj is a cultural destination that celebrates the depth and diversity of India’s handmade heritage, offering audiences an immersive experience where heritage and innovation meet. True to its ethos, The Kunj carries the spirit of its tagline—Handmade in India, Crafted for the
World. Rooted in the recognition that India's vast and diverse craft heritage-sustained for centuries by skilled artisan communities-requires a contemporary platform, The Kunj seeks to bridge tradition with modern markets, engage diverse audiences & position Indian crafts prominently on the global stage. The vision is to create a permanent, world- class venue where artisans, designers & cultural entrepreneurs collaborate, showcase & innovate.
At the heart of the complex is Karigar Sangam, a curated artisan-led exhibition featuring over 100 handcrafted pieces created by National Awardees, Shilp Gurus & master artisans from across the country. Curated by Cultre, each piece is accompanied by detailed information about the craft technique, cultural symbolism & regional identity, highlighting not just the product but also the people and legacy behind it.
The space goes blends exhibition-making with retail sensibility and positions India’s finest makers as cultural leaders and their works as living heritage.
