This vertical composition presents a unique interpretation of the "Tree of Life," where the traditional botanical form is composed entirely of aquatic life. A singular, solid black trunk emerges from the bottom center, but instead of wooden branches and green leaves, it sprouts a vast, fan-like canopy made of dozens of interlocking pink fish. These fish are arranged in a rhythmic, radiating pattern, with their heads pointing outward to create a sense of continuous expansion and growth.
The artist employs the Kachni style, using fine, red parallel lines to fill the bodies of the fish, giving them a shimmering, textured appearance. Each fish is detailed with a large, watchful eye and a yellow-and-blue gills pattern, emphasizing the individual life within the collective whole. The background is filled with dense, horizontal grey line-work that suggests the movement of water or wind, further enhancing the vibrating energy of the piece.
The entire work is framed by a simple, off-white inner border and a thick, solid black outer margin. This minimalist framing directs all attention to the complex, mosaic-like structure of the fish tree, which serves as a powerful metaphor for the Mithila belief that all living beings are part of a single, interconnected web of existence.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.

Madhubani art, also known as Mithila art, originates from the Mithila region of Bihar, India, and is celebrated for its intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and profound cultural significance. Traditionally created by women on walls and floors during auspicious occasions, these paintings depict Hindu mythology, nature, folklore, and daily life, often incorporating Hindu deities, scenes from epics, and natural motifs like flowers and animals. Legend suggests its origins trace back to King Janak's commission for Sita's wedding. Artists traditionally use natural pigments from plants and minerals, applied with homemade bamboo and cotton brushes, filling the entire surface with fine detail. While some contemporary artists use synthetic paints, many maintain traditional methods. The art form gained international recognition in the 1960s and has since expanded to various mediums beyond walls, including canvases and textiles. Distinct styles like Kachni (line art), Bharni (filling art), Godna (tattoo art), Tantrik (spiritual), and Kohbar (marriage rituals) exist, each with unique characteristics.
