This miniature painting by artist Mohan Prajapati presents a pair of butterflies rendered with scientific clarity and ornamental refinement, set within Hashiya, a richly decorated Mughal-style border. The butterflies are positioned symmetrically, their wings spread to emphasize pattern, color, and delicate veining. Subtle tonal gradations and fine line work articulate the wings’ textures, balancing natural observation with aesthetic order.
The elaborate floral border composed of stylized vines, blossoms, and foliage are arranged in a continuous, rhythmic pattern. Executed in muted golds and soft jewel tones, the border recalls Mughal album margins, where decorative framing was integral to the visual experience. Together, the precise depiction of the butterflies and the luxuriant border create a harmonious composition that merges natural-history imagery with the courtly elegance and ornamental sensibility of the Mughal miniature tradition.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.

Miniature painting, an exquisite Indian art form, originated from a striking fusion of ancient Indian styles and the Persian Safavid school, giving birth to the Mughal School. Characterized by gracious strokes and intricate detailing achieved with single-haired brushes, these paintings served as a primary mode of historical archiving under Mughal emperors like Akbar and Jahangir, capturing courtly scenes, wars, mythological tales, and more. The vibrancy of these works was created using natural colors derived from indigo, precious stones, shells, pearls, and real gold and silver, with details so fine they often require a magnifying glass to appreciate. Though the art form saw a decline in patronage towards the end of the 18th century, traditional skills continue to be passed down, with Rajasthan particularly upholding the artistic legacy of Mughal miniature paintings.
