This detailed miniature painting by Mohan ji presents an ornamental composition inspired by a traditional maang tika, the forehead ornament worn along the central hair parting in South Asian jewellery traditions. The design is arranged vertically, with a chain-like upper element leading down to a richly embellished central medallion, closely echoing the structure and visual rhythm of an actual maang tika.
Rendered against a deep, dark ground, the ornament is articulated through meticulous dot work, fine line detailing, and layered decorative forms. A palette of golden ochres, deep reds, greens, and touches of white evokes the appearance of enamelled metal and set gemstones. Concentric borders frame the composition, enhancing its symmetry and jewel-like precision. By isolating the maang tika as the sole subject, the work transforms a wearable object into a contemplative image, celebrating ornament as an independent aesthetic form rooted in courtly and miniature painting traditions.

Returns and Replacements

Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.

Miniature painting, an exquisite Indian art form, originated from a striking fusion of ancient Indian styles and the Persian Safavid school, giving birth to the Mughal School. Characterized by gracious strokes and intricate detailing achieved with single-haired brushes, these paintings served as a primary mode of historical archiving under Mughal emperors like Akbar and Jahangir, capturing courtly scenes, wars, mythological tales, and more. The vibrancy of these works was created using natural colors derived from indigo, precious stones, shells, pearls, and real gold and silver, with details so fine they often require a magnifying glass to appreciate. Though the art form saw a decline in patronage towards the end of the 18th century, traditional skills continue to be passed down, with Rajasthan particularly upholding the artistic legacy of Mughal miniature paintings.
