This is a serene and exquisite Pichwai composition by Naveen Soni, depicting a religious procession of Gopis moving through the forest.
Pichwai painting is a devotional textile art tradition from Nathdwara, Rajasthan, created to be hung behind the murti of Shrinathji, a form of Krishna worshipped at the Nathdwara temple. Traditionally rendered in natural pigments, gold, and silver leaf on cloth, Pichwai paintings depict the deity across the seasons and festivals of the Pushtimarg devotional calendar, combining fine detail with a scale meant to fill and frame the sanctum itself.
The central image shows a musical procession of Gopis dressed in gold garments and elaborate pearl jewellery, carrying musical instruments such as sitars and items for worship, including a Pooja Thal, a Peacock feather fan, a Chamor fan, and more. They are accompanied by calves, with the orange handprints signifying the divine protection of Shrinathji, and a parrot. They are seen to be standing in front of a golden chattri with pearl ornamentation and peacock motif entablatures and capital in the Nandvan (sacred grove) with a multiplicity of flowering plants and mango fruits with birds and squirrels skittering about.
Below this is a gopala standing in gold garments and pearl jewellery in all of his divinity, represented by a bhamandal, as he herds his cows as they walk along the banks of the Yamuna River with lotus blooms. The cows are ornamented in gold necklaces and orange feet and handprints on their backs, a significance of celebration and divine protection.
The entire scene is set in a dark background to highlight the gilding in the painting. Adding to the divinity of this painting are celestial beings floating in the sky as witnesses to this event. Completing this composition are the golden-yellow and terracotta red borders, adding a finial to the painting.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
