This Pichwai painting by master artist Suresh Kumar Kumawat presents Shrinathji, the seven-year-old manifestation of Lord Krishna, in a frontal and highly symmetrical composition. He stands at the centre in his characteristic Govardhan-lifting posture, surrounded by lush Braj motifs and ritual offerings that emphasise both his divinity and his intimate presence in Pushtimarg worship.
Pichwai painting is a devotional textile tradition that developed in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, in association with the Pushtimarg worship of Shrinathji. Literally meaning “that which hangs behind,” pichwais were originally large painted cloths hung behind the deity in the temple sanctum to create a sacred backdrop for darshan.
Shrinathji is rendered in a deep blue complexion, with large almond-shaped eyes, a prominent white tilak and a serene expression. His head is adorned with an elaborate silver mor mukut (peacock-feather headdress), set with peacock feathers that rise prominently above the crown. His ears, neck, arms and feet are richly ornamented with intricate jewellery. Multiple pearl and gemstone necklaces cover his torso, while a long garland of pink-and-white lotuses falls almost to his feet. His richly patterned garments fan out on either side of his body in layers of red, yellow and grey, creating a striking sense of symmetry.
The backdrop is a stylised green field framed by large banana leaves, evoking the lush natural landscape of Braj. A blooming lotus rises beside Shrinathji, while a large circular ornamental element resembling a peacock-feather fan or halo appears behind his head. Decorative hanging elements and tassels further enrich the sacred setting.
At Shrinathji’s feet, ritual offerings are placed on low stools: prasad, a jal dani (water pot), positioned particularly close to his feet.
The composition is enclosed within a broad red outer border, edged with fine yellow and black lines. Within it, the central image is framed by another narrow architectural border, giving the deity the appearance of being enshrined within a sanctum. The restrained background allows the richly ornamented figure of Shrinathji to remain the unmistakable visual focus.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
