Nila’s Impeccable Plan

The soft rays of the morning sun,

The sweet fragrance of jasmine,

The comforting warmth of her Tulsi tea,

Nila soaks in her blissful morning ritual.

What she loves most is the silence,

The calm before her two teenage boys wake up.

It’s the weekend, and there’s a lot to plan.

They’ll all sit around the table after breakfast.

They divide tasks and make meal plans.

Who should do the laundry and when?

Who’s turn it’s to pick up the supplies?

Who’s going to do the dishes after dinner?

Nila lays out the blueprint for the next week.

Yes, she’s a homemaker, but she doesn’t have to do it all.

Her boys know they need to do their part,

So does her husband, without a speck of doubt.

The home runs as an oiled machine,

Thanks to Nila’s impeccable plans.

But now she knows everything can’t be planned.

There’ll be unannounced guests,

Like what she saw in the mirror a few months back.

It started as a swelling in her left breast.

Soon, she found rashes on the skin.

Her nipple retracted in, and blood oozed out.

Her plans seemed to come down crashing,

And her future, a big black hole.

Yes, she was thrown off the track for a while,

But she soon got back up and made a plan.

A plan to save her breasts and claim her life back.

Her foolproof plan didn’t fail her this time, either.

Nila smiles as she hears a rustle from the bedroom,

Her twin sons will barge into the balcony at any moment,

Her husband, too, will soon be out of the shower.

They’ll sit around the kitchen table,

Eating, laughing, pulling each other’s legs,

They’ll make an impeccable plan,

Not just for a week but for a beautiful life ahead.

Kerala Mural

Kerala mural art is a traditional form of painting that originated in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Rooted in religious narratives, Kerala mural art has evolved over centuries to become a celebrated cultural heritage of India. History and Tradition The history of Kerala mural art can be traced back to the ancient temples and palaces of Kerala, where these magnificent paintings adorned the walls as expressions of devotion and artistic excellence. Dating back to as early as the 9th century CE, Kerala murals can be seen in places like Thirunadhikkara cave, Vaikom temple, Padmanabhaswamy temple etc.  Themes Generally, Kerala mural paintings are inspired by Hindu mythology, depicting scenes from the epics Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas. These paintings often portray gods, goddesses, celestial beings, and mythological creatures in elaborate detail, conveying stories of love, valor, and divine intervention reflecting the rich tapestry of Indian mythology and spirituality. Techniques and Details  Kerala mural art is characterized by meticulous attention to detail, vibrant colors, and beautiful compositions. At first, artists prepare the wall with layers of lime and sand mixture. Natural pigments derived from minerals, plants, and metals, are used to draw outlines and later fill the colors, using brushes made from natural fibers. Artists skillfully incorporate architectural features such as pillars, arches, and doorways into their compositions, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality. The paintings are often adorned with decorative motifs and geometric patterns, adding to their visual appeal. V.M. Jijulal and Adarsh are some of the notable artists practicing this ancient art.
