Tanjore art, also known as Thanjavur art or Tanjore painting is A Classical South Indian Art Developed In The Late 16th Century In Thanjavur Also Known As Tanjore In Tamilnadu South Indian State. These Tanjore Paintings Evoke A Sense Of Class And Timelessness With Their Alluring Illustrations Of Puranic Scenes. This Ancient Art Form Traces Its Origin To Tanjavur, Capital Of The Erstwhile Chola Empire.  The paintings are characterized by their vibrant colors, intricate details, and the use of gold leaf and precious stones. The paintings depict Hindu gods and goddesses, and religious themes, and are typically done on a piece of cloth or canvas pasted over a wooden board. The base of the painting is typically made from a mixture of limestone paste, sawdust, and tamarind seed, which is then polished to give the painting a smooth finish. The main feature of the paintings is the use of gold leaf, which is applied to the painting using a technique called "gesso work". The gold leaf is applied in thin sheets and then burnished to create a shining effect.
