This mixed-media craft combines a Dokra-cast elephant composed of lock-shaped metal units with a richly embroidered Kutch appliqué textile backdrop. The elephant’s body is constructed from multiple small Dokra locks, linked together to form a segmented, articulated figure. Cast using the traditional lost-wax technique, these lock forms introduce layered meanings of protection, security, and continuity, while also lending the animal a rhythmic, modular structure.
Set against this sculptural figure is a vibrant Kutch appliqué background, distinguished by bold geometric patterns, mirror work, and dense embroidery on a deep red ground. The textile’s vivid colors and intricate surface contrast with the muted metallic sheen of the Dokra locks, enhancing the visual dialogue between metal and cloth.
