Crafted by artist Dharmendra Sutradhara, this stunning Purulia Chhau mask is a unique work that embodies the iconic craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of West Bengal's famous Chhau dance.
The piece depicts the Hindu god Kartikeya, capturing his essence with a blend of dramatic and stylized features that portray a serene yet powerful expression. The face is painted in a soft pink with a prominent red bindi on the forehead and large, expressive eyes outlined in black.
Crowning the mask is a magnificent, semi-circular silver headdress, intricately adorned with radiating spikes and beads, while two large, curly pieces of black hair on each side add to its dynamic appearance.
This beautiful example of a traditional art form seamlessly blends sculpture, painting, and costume design to create a powerful and expressive devotional object.
