About

Tikuli, an unusual art style, is said to be over 800 years old. Tikuli originated in Patna, Bihar. Hand painting in this manner entails moulding glass into sheets and adorning and creating on them. The upper class is reported to have embellished them with gold and diamonds as a status signal. This artform is now done on hardboard plates and involves 15 phases, although it is still practised by individuals like the Santhal tribe of Bihar and volumes of Hindi literature.
