This endearing wood carving by the artist Shrinivasan depicts the revered deity Lord Ganesha in a rare, peaceful, and relaxing posture, embodying rest, contemplation, and serenity.
The piece is masterfully executed in Vagai wood (Albizia lebbeck, or Indian Walnut), a durable material prized for its rich tone and prominent grain, providing a perfect foundation for the detailed work.
The carving features Lord Ganesha reclining gracefully on his side, his head resting gently on one hand atop a round bolster, which lends the piece a gentle, relaxed quality. The deep-relief carving expertly captures the intricate details of his iconic elephant head and trunk, while his embellished carved crown and jewelry maintain his divine status even in repose. The entire composition is highly dynamic, rendered with exceptional artistic depth and craftsmanship.
The artwork is protected by a durable PU (Polyurethane) polish, which is the preferred alternative to traditional varnish, ensuring the longevity and preserving the warm, natural beauty of the wood.
