This piece is a meticulously carved wooden printing block, created by K. Gangadhar for use in the traditional Kalamkari textile printing process. The block features a prominent Lotus motif, a highly symbolic flower in Indian art representing purity, beauty, and divinity.
The design is rendered in a highly stylised manner, common for textile blocks. The lotus petals and central seed pod are intricately detailed with fine lines and curves, demonstrating the delicate skill required to carve blocks used for fine-line printing. The block itself is made of durable wood, cut to a shape with a clear handle or grip visible on the reverse side, allowing for precise application of dye onto the fabric.
The block's intricate negative space carving dictates where the dye will transfer, creating the characteristic outlines and patterns of Kalamkari. A testament to traditional hand-printing, this masterful piece is a perfect add-on for collectors—both for its potential use in textile printing and as a striking display of preserved artistic heritage.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
