About the Artwork +

This exquisite set of Sujani textile artworks by Rupa Kumari and Anshu Devi, titled “Ardhganga”, is a contemplative tribute to the mystical pulse of nature and the divine flow of existence. Ardhganga, meaning “half of river Ganga,” evokes the spirit of the Ganges, capturing its endless movement, transformative power, and sacred rhythm. These twin panels are more than visual pieces—they are emotive currents, narrating the unseen connection between the earthly and the eternal. With a palette that dances between cobalt blues and white, the artworks echo the river’s shifting moods, from gentle ripples to flowing torrents. The base is a sustainable hemp (55%) and cotton (45%) blend, Shibori tie-dyed in natural indigo, creating watery motifs that resemble topographic maps or waves drawn in air. These textures are enhanced with delicate Sujani embroidery, hand-stitched by artisans in Bihar, each thread flowing like a chant in motion. The undulating lines and stitchwork give the pieces a sense of breath and rhythm, turning fabric into meditation. Framed in white teak (Gamhar wood) and polished with white zinc, the presentation adds to the purity and quiet strength of the composition. The diptych reads like two verses of the same hymn—mirroring the Ganga’s dual nature as both destroyer and nurturer, chaos and calm. “Ardhganga” thus becomes a visual hymn to interconnectedness, to the invisible threads that bind us to nature, to heritage, and to one another. It reminds the viewer that within movement, there is stillness; and within stillness, the universe continues to flow.

Framed in White Teak (Gamhar Wood), Polished with White Zinc. Shibori tie dye with indigo. Made in 55% hemp and 45% cotton blend. Hand embroidered with humble sujani stitches in Bihar.

Please Note: This piece is made-to-order. Estimated time: 4 Weeks

Do Suta blue-tick

Do
Do Suta offers a vibrant collection of textiles that beautifully blend modern and contemporary aesthetics with the traditional art of Sujani. Sujani is a distinguished folk art form of embroidery with deep roots in Bihar, India. This unique craft, which received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2006 for its preservation, involves using a basic running stitch to meticulously join and layer pieces of cloth. Do Suta's textiles, often characterized by their cool colors, earthy appearance, and minimalism, evoke a serene essence. This feeling is beautifully captured as: "Under the soft caresses of crimson rays and the mellow scent of ripening mangoes, you'd see them dancing, washing troubles away in showers of the clear skies, blooming in the sky and fields like little patches of rainbow, their laughs fluttering like marigolds in the breeze. As they run through tall fields of wheat with their hair flying in soft waves, kindred ties and congenial friendships set the path where quiet happiness blooms."
