About the Artwork +
Calm and centered, Ksemya - a Sujani textile work by Do Suta emerges as a visual meditation on balance and inner harmony. Sujani is a traditional embroidery art from Bihar, India, where simple running stitches and motifs are used to narrate stories, celebrate life, and invoke protection.
Dyed in earthy tones using natural pigments such as burnt ash, madder, sea salt, and iron earth, the piece is grounded in elemental memory. The marbled backdrop is layered with Sujani-style embroidery, with modest, repetitive stitches that evoke the rhythm of breath or falling rain. Threads of red, yellow and soft pink meander across the textile, forming waves of movement within a still field, gently guiding the eye across its contours. Crafted from a blend of 55% hemp and 45% cotton, the tactile surface resonates with the raw, grounding quality of its material.
The handmade nature of the embroidery, deeply rooted in the folk traditions of Bihar, lends the work a soulful intimacy. Suspended in stillness, Ksemya draws the viewer inward, offering a quiet, immersive space for reflection, where texture and tone dissolve into feeling and stillness becomes a kind of poetry.
