This exquisite artwork from Sushil Soni’s collection captures the ethereal beauty of Sharad Purnima, one of the most romantic and spiritually significant nights in Indian tradition. Set against a starry midnight sky sprinkled with delicate full moonlight, the painting radiates divine serenity and intricate craftsmanship.
At the heart of the composition stands Lord Krishna as Shrinathji, the seven-year-old child form worshipped in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, adorned in resplendent royal blue and gold attire, standing in his iconic pose of lifting Mount Govardhan with his left arm above and the right arm beside, accompanied by a lotus shaft and flute. He is surrounded by graceful gopis (cowherd maidens), each elegantly dressed in richly patterned, jewel-toned lehengas and adorned with traditional ornaments, their expressions reflecting blissful devotion and surrender to the celestial music.
Two grand golden canopies frame the assembly, symbolising sacred protection and royal celebration, while the lush greenery and serene lotus-filled pond below infuse the scene with the calm of Vrindavan’s divine landscape. The border, intricately painted with floral motifs, frames the entire spectacle, enhancing the painting’s regal elegance. Above, floating in the night sky, are divine swans and birds with deities in celestial chariots, witnessing the auspicious night of Sharad Purnima, when the moon shines with healing nectar.
