Kashmir Paper Mache is a centuries-old craft from the Kashmir Valley, known for its intricate hand-painted designs and delicate craftsmanship. This traditional art form, introduced from Persia in the 15th century and later fused with local and Mughal aesthetics, transforms paper pulp into stunning decorative and functional objects like boxes, trays, and vases. The craft involves two main techniques: Sakhtsazi, the molding of recycled paper pulp, and Naqashi, the hand-painting stage where fine designs inspired by Kashmiri nature, Islamic art, and Persian miniatures are applied using natural pigments and gold leaf.
