This masterful Sanjhi artwork by Ashutosh Verma depicts the legendary episode of Kaliya Mardan, where Lord Krishna subdues the venomous serpent Kaliya in the Yamuna River. Sanjhi art is an ancient paper-cutting tradition from Mathura that uses intricate paper cutting to create complex narratives from a single sheet of paper. The composition utilizes a sophisticated monochromatic palette, with dark gray or black silhouettes set against a neutral background, highlighting the incredible precision and delicate line work required for this craft.
In the center of the piece, the young Lord Krishna is shown dancing triumphantly upon the multi-headed hood of the serpent Kaliya, his arms outstretched and a divine halo framing his head. On either side of the central figure, the Naginis—the wives of the serpent—emerge from the water with human torsos and coiled serpentine tails, their hands joined in prayer as they plead for mercy. The bodies of the serpents are adorned with a meticulously cut diamond-lattice pattern that adds a sense of texture and movement to their forms. The entire scene is set against the stylized waters of the Yamuna, represented by rhythmic wavy lines that fill the lower half of the frame. Tiny fish are scattered within the ripples, providing a sense of scale and life to the river setting. This piece serves as a remarkable testament to the technical skill of Ashutosh Verma, capturing a dynamic moment of divine victory through the fragile and demanding medium of hand-cut paper.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
