Aghasura Vadha Lila: Lord Krishna and Balarama in Manuscript Painting by Sujit Das

This magnificent Pattachitra manuscript painting by Sujit Das vividly illustrates the pivotal story of the Aghasura-Vadha Lila, a divine pastime where Lord Krishna vanquishes the colossal serpent demon, Aghasura. Rendered in a strong horizontal format, the artwork employs a powerful and symbolic colour palette.

The composition focuses on the dramatic confrontation. Aghasura, the massive, blue-bodied serpent sent by the demon King Kansa, has disguised himself to devour Lord Krishna and the cowherd boys. His terrifying, open mouth, complete with a long red tongue, is ready to swallow a small white calf. Unaware of the danger, Lord Krishna's friends, perceiving the mouth as a cave, have begun to enter it.

The divine figures of Lord Krishna, depicted in his blue form and yellow dhoti playing the flute, and his elder brother Balarama, shown in a white complexion, confidently approach the menacing jaws. The painting captures the precise moment of danger and divine intervention.

The narrative unfolds as the demon, with most of the cowherd boys inside, closes his mouth to suffocate them. However, Lord Krishna, having also entered, begins to grow to a colossal size. The expanding presence of the Lord within the serpent causes Aghasura immense suffering, his eyes popping out until the demon's life force bursts through the top of its head and is instantly absorbed by Krishna, thus killing the demon.

This powerful scene, set against a dramatic red-orange and deep blue backdrop, vividly captures the bravery and divine power of Lord Krishna as he performs this Lila (divine play) to protect his companions and establish righteousness by conquering the destructive demon.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹249 applies to orders below ₹999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

All artworks are handmade and couriered securely packed in a tube.

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.
