This majestic composition in Kalamkari by Harinath N captures the classical iconographical scene of Goddess Gajalakshmi, representing prosperity, spiritual purity and sovereignty. The layout functions as a piece of visual scripture, utilizing perfect symmetry to create a sense of divine stillness.
At the exact center of the fabric sits the four-armed Goddess Lakshmi, her golden-yellow form seated in padmasana (lotus posture) upon a large, open pink lotus blossom. Her face is detailed with calm, symmetrical features, topped by a towering, multi-tiered golden crown (mukut). In her two upper hands, she holds blooming pink lotus buds, while her lower hands are extended in the protective abhaya mudra and the boon-giving varada mudra. She is dressed in an intricate terracotta-red sari patterned with fine gold bands and heavy pearl necklaces that fill her chest area.
Flanking the goddess symmetrically are two massive, royal grey elephants (gajas). They stand powerfully in a shallow river register, their trunks raised high into the air to pour sacred water from golden vessels over the deity's head. The lower water register is rendered in light cerulean blue, populated by a lively school of fish swimming in unison. The entire sacred event is enclosed within a spectacular, thick border of repeating circular medallions containing stylized floral rosettes in shades of crimson, gold, and blue.
The painting stands out as a powerful testament to the protective majesty and auspiciousness of the divine feminine. Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.

Kalamkari is an ancient Indian art form of painting or printing on fabric using natural dyes and intricate penwork, with its name literally meaning 'craftwork done with a pen'. Flourishing under the Mughals and later the Golconda and Coromandel Sultanates, its prominent centers are Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh. This art form traditionally depicts Hindu mythological epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana, featuring deities and common occurrences, characterized by rounded faces, large eyes, and detailed costumes. Legend connects its origin to Radha teaching the art in Machilipatnam and its use on Hanuman's flag. The meticulous technique involves preparing cotton or silk fabric, outlining designs with a 'kalam' (bamboo or palm stick dipped in fermented jaggery and water) acting as a natural mordant, and then filling in patterns with natural dyes from plants, roots, and minerals. Authentic Kalamkari is identified by hand-drawn or block-printed designs, natural dyes, traditional patterns, and slight imperfections, with motifs often inspired by nature, mythology, and folklore, each carrying cultural and symbolic significance. Harinath N, Sudheerji, and Siva Reddy are notable master artists of this intricate and time-consuming art.
