Golden Tree in Soof Embroidery by Daya Ben

This striking Soof piece by Daya Ben depicts traditional desert iconography through modern play on monochromatic contrast. The artwork depicts a highly stylized, single-toned geometric tree structure against a dark background.

Soof Embroidery is a traditional counted-thread embroidery practiced by women of the Meghwal community in the Kutch region of Gujarat. It is created by counting the weave of the fabric rather than drawing patterns, resulting in precise geometric designs. The embroidery is usually worked with silk threads on handwoven cotton fabric, often without any mirrors. Soof motifs are inspired by nature, including flowers, buds and abstract forms.

At the heart of the composition stands the majestic central tree trunk, closely intertwined with layered geometric branches that shoot upward and outward to form a perfectly balanced, tapering physical silhouette. The base of the tree is formed by a wide, dense pyramid of interlocking hollow and solid triangles, meticulously stitched to create a stable foundation.

Rising from this root system is a central, columnar trunk rendered in tight, parallel satin stitches that acts as the anchor for a series of stepped, chevron-shaped boughs. The entire architectural form is rendered in a singular, vibrant golden silk thread, adding a brilliant, shimmering texture to the design.

The surrounding branches flank the central axis, leaning beautifully into the symmetry with precise, multi-tiered geometric clusters that extend outward like crystalline leaves. Each branch culminates in a stylized cross-like crest made of miniature soof triangles, keeping the negative space of the deep black background perfectly uniform on both sides.

The textile features the Soof school's signature absolute precision, using thick, sweeping blocks of directional satin stitches to give the flat threads a volumetric presence against the fabric. The color palette relies on a striking contrast between the luminous gold silk filament and the black cotton ground, a minimalist approach that highlights the meticulous line-work of every individual stitch cell.

Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.
