Her Divine Grace: Meldi Mata and Goat in Mata Ni Pachedi by Vasant Manubhai Chittara

This magnificent artwork, attributed to master artist Vasant Manubhai Chittara, is a striking depiction of the Goddess Meldi Mata within the Mata ni Pachedi textile tradition. This traditional Gujarati art form, whose name means "cloth of the Mother Goddess," is used as a portable shrine cloth, characterised by hand-painted mythological narratives and bold colors.
The composition centers on a powerful circular mandala, immediately drawing the eye to the goddess's highly stylized, serene, yet potent face. In the central medallion, Meldi Mata’s face is painted in a cream white skin tone set against a deep, vibrant maroon background, which vividly symbolises her intense, divine power (Shakti). This central image is further intensified by her elaborate crown and intricate jewelry, all rendered in fine linework and shimmering yellow pigment.
Though Meldi Mata is the goddess of the 'impure' realm—named after the Gujarati word for dirt, melu—and claims domain over shadowy margins like cemeteries where conventional gods do not venture, her protective role is paramount. This duality is expressed in the surrounding rhythmic procession: a bright yellow ring encircling the face depicts a continuous narrative of her devotees and small, black, stylized goats. These goats are critically included as her vahana (vehicle), the animal most strongly associated with her worship. Ultimately, this beautiful and ritualistically rich composition emphasizes Meldi Mata's essential function as a protective village deity for her community.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹249 applies to orders below ₹999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

All artworks are handmade and couriered securely packed in a tube.

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.
