Phad painting is a vibrant, 700-year-old scroll painting tradition originating from the Bhilwara region of Rajasthan. Traditionally executed on long sheets of hand-woven cloth (phad), these paintings functioned as mobile temples. Priest-singers (Bhopas) would travel from village to village, unfurling the scrolls at night and singing tales of folk deities like Pabuji and Devnarayan.

Stepping into this modern, domestic sphere, the artwork isolates a tender, collaborative moment over a kitchen counter. The male figure on the left leans forward with focused attention, holding a knife to cut vegetables on a rectangular cutting board. Beside him, the female figure is actively engaged in kneading dough inside a large bowl. True to traditional Phad style, both characters feature prominent, large fish-shaped eyes, sharp noses and rounded facial features, their glances locking in an unspoken, harmonious dialogue.

Their attire and adornments anchor the contemporary scene back into its Rajasthani heritage. Both figures wear tops patterned with classic motifs, the man's tunic features fine droplet designs, while the woman's blouse is adorned with delicate stars. Their look is elevated by striking golden jewelry, including thick bangles, armlets and traditional circular earrings (kundals).

The culinary setting is rendered with detail upon a long white countertop. To the far left, a golden bowl overflows with produce, while to the right of the woman sits a small white bowl and a patterned tumbler with yellow trim. Below the workspace, the artist introduces architectural depth with a textured yellow counter base, with repeating brick linework and classic arched alcoves.

The painting utilizes a rich red background for the upper half of the canvas, which instantly evokes the cozy warmth of a home and highlights the figures' silhouettes. The framing remains clean and contemporary, with a crisp, solid black border firmly outlining the canvas. This intentional framing highlights the beauty of a simple daily chore, transforming it into an elegant piece of fine art.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.

• The order contains more than two different product types.
