Gitanjali Das has painted this beautiful Pattachitra depicting the story of Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill, also known as Krishna Girigobardhan. In this painting, Krishna is shown in the posture of lifting the Govardhan Hill with one arm raised to protect the residents of Vrindavan from the wrath of Indra, the king of the gods. The other arm rests on his waist and he holds a lotus in his hand. He is adorned in jewels from head to toe, and his attire is a shaneel or silk fabric with intricate zari work designs. This act of Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill had amazed and baffled the entire village of Gokul when he enacted the deed to rescue the Gokulvasis from the wrath of Devraj Indra. Not only did Krishna save the people under the hill, but he also ensured the safety of all the creatures living on top of it. This Pattachitra portrays the essence of this story, which is the subtle acknowledgment of all living beings.
