Bengal Pattachitra is a traditional Indian art form from West Bengal, known for its vibrant and intricate storytelling on cloth or paper. Originating in rural regions like Medinipur and Bankura, this art form dates back to ancient times, evolving from a medium for mythological and religious narratives to incorporate folk tales and social issues. Characterized by bold lines, flat natural colors, and stylized figures with elongated eyes, Patuas traditionally used natural pigments from plants and minerals, applied with brushes made from animal hair or plant fibers, on surfaces prepared with chalk or tamarind seed paste.
