This devotional Kerala mural painted by Adarsh portrays the divine and graceful form of Lord Ganesha. Originating from Kerala, these murals were traditionally painted on the walls and ceilings of dwellings, temples, and palaces; characterised by expressive forms, large eyes, graceful depiction, vibrant colour palettes and elaborate ornaments. These deptict themes from mythological stories, oral narratives and folk culture.
At the center of the composition is Lord Ganesha, seated in the Lalitasana position. He is portrayed with four arms, where both his upper hands carry an ankusa (elephant goad) and a pasa (noose). The former signifies the power to guide, while the latter signifies restraint from worldly attachments. His lower right hand holds his broken tusk, highlighting his role as ekadanta, the one who used his tusk to write down the Mahabharata, while the lower left hand holds the citron or Matulinga, representing the seed of the entire unmanifest universe.
This elephant-headed deity is associated with the quality of serenity with spiritual awakening and wisdom. His head is adorned with a long, curving trunk and magnificent ears. His almond-shaped eyes contribute to an expression that invites devotion and reverence. His forehead is adorned with a third eye, symbolizing enlightenment and awakening power. He is adorned with an embellished crown and intricate ornaments. At the top of his crown, his bun is shown adorned with a crescent moon, with both the third eye and the crescent moon in the hair being representative of his father, Lord Shiva. is pot belly, which signifies him as a lambodara (the one with a large stomach), is a reflection of his ability to attain all kinds of experiences. Behind his head, an illuminating halo frames the god, showcasing the divinity.
He is attired in decorative garments, with a blue cloth covering the body along with a red and green dhoti and angavastram. He is adorned with a variety of golden ornaments, right from the magnificient bejewelled crown to earrings, necklaces, armbands, bracelets, rings, anklets, a belt around his torso, etc.
The background is adorned with swirling clouds outlined in layers, while the back and the base of the throne of the Lord are painted with decorative motifs and patterned designs.
