Lippan art, also known as Mud and Mirror work, is a traditional Indian craft originating from the Kutch region of Gujarat. This ancient art form, deeply rooted in the Rabari community, involves creating intricate decorative patterns on walls and surfaces, traditionally the Bhungas (circular mud huts), using a mixture of clay, sand, and cow dung. Its key characteristic is the embedding of various shaped mirrors into these raised mud designs, which not only serve an aesthetic purpose but also hold symbolic meanings, reflecting light and warding off evil spirits. The designs often feature geometric shapes, floral motifs, animal figures, and traditional symbols, reflecting themes related to nature, animals, and daily life.
