Chitrakathi is a traditional Indian art form from Maharashtra, particularly Paithan and Pinguli, that uniquely blends storytelling with painting. This ancient art involves Chitrakars using vividly painted scrolls or paper sheets as visual aids to narrate stories from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as local folklore. Characterized by bold lines, bright colors, and expressive figures, the paintings are traditionally made on paper or cloth using natural dyes and pigments, with artists employing bamboo pens and natural fiber brushes. Dating back to the 17th century, Chitrakathi served as a vital medium for entertainment and education, preserving mythological and cultural heritage, and fostering community bonding through its interactive performances.
