About the Artwork +

Swarna Chitrakar's Bengal Pattachitra unveils a mesmerizing portrayal of Kali, the dynamic manifestation of Shakti, emerging from Parvati's serene form. In this captivating artwork, the artist skillfully captures the transformative energy as Parvati transcends into the fierce avatar of Kali.
The canvas pulsates with vibrant hues, reflecting the traditional richness of Bengal Pattachitra. Parvati, adorned with grace, undergoes a divine metamorphosis into Kali, signified by the dark complexion, multiple arms, and the iconic trident she wields. Swarna Chitrakar's meticulous detailing breathes life into the narrative, illustrating the fluid transition between the nurturing aspect of Parvati and the formidable power of Kali.
Symbolism abounds in this painting, as Kali emerges, embodying the cosmic dance of creation and destruction. The traditional motifs and intricate patterns characteristic of Bengal Pattachitra enhance the visual storytelling, inviting viewers to witness the divine unfolding.
This artwork becomes a visual hymn to the duality of existence, where Parvati gracefully transforms into the formidable force of Kali.

    Bengal Pattachitra

The Bengal Pattachitra is a visual and oral art tradition practised by the Patuas or Chitrakars of West Bengal. Islamic by faith, Patua artists represent a unique and secular art tradition. They earn their livelihood by telling stories from Hindu Mythology, local folklores, Sufi tradition and contemporary themes through paintings and songs. Though the origin of the Patua tradition has been difficult to trace for art historians, some claim the oral form goes back all the way to the 10th or 11th century CE!
