About the Artwork +

Dr. J. Dundaraja portrays Goddess Lakshmi in all her resplendent grace, showing that seated within her celestial abode,Goddess Lakshmi is depicted seated upon Padma, the lotus flower, which is a powerful symbol of purity and transcendence. The lotus, with its petals emerging from the mud untouched by impurities, represents the idea of rising above the material world and emerging into the realm of divinity. In her divine hands, the goddess holds lotus flowers, adding another layer of symbolism to the painting. This Mysore painting serves as a visual ode to the goddess, inviting viewers to contemplate the depth and significance of wealth, both material and spiritual.

Mysore Painting

Mysore painting is an important form of classical South Indian painting style that originated in and around the town of Mysore in Karnataka encouraged and nurtured by the Mysore rulers. Painting in Karnataka has a long and illustrious history, tracing its origins back to the Ajanta times. Mysore paintings are known for their elegance, muted colours, and attention to detail. The themes for most of these paintings are Hindu gods and goddesses and scenes from Hindu Mythology.
