About the Artwork +
The captivating Indian art of Taarkashi, meaning "wire work," though with origins in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, is a prominent feature of Rajasthan's heritage. It's characterized by the precise embedding of delicate metal wires – brass, copper, or silver – into wood, creating intricate floral and geometric designs frequently seen on the aged doors of Rajasthan's palaces, sometimes enhanced with ivory. This exquisite Tarkashi artwork by Gaurav Shakya is a magnificent representation of Radha and Krishna, one of Indian art and spiritual culture's most beloved divine duo. Crafted with the meticulous brass wire inlay technique on rich Sheesham wood, this piece celebrates the ancient craft of Tarkashi — where delicate brass wires are hand-embedded into wood, creating shimmering, intricate patterns that narrate timeless tales. The central panel features Lord Krishna, adorned with an elaborate crown and garlands, playing his melodious flute as Radha, the eternal symbol of devotion and love, stands gracefully by his side, her hand tenderly resting on his shoulder. A serene cow, symbolizing purity and abundance, completes the pastoral scene, evoking the tranquil charm of Vrindavan. Every detail — from the intricate weaves of Krishna's flowing attire to Radha’s ornate jewelry and the gentle curve of the cow’s posture — is rendered with remarkable finesse through fine brass inlay, capturing both the physical beauty and spiritual symbolism of these characters. Surrounding the central scene is a splendid floral border, meticulously inlaid with brass vines and blossoms, adding a regal frame to this devotional masterpiece. The lustrous shining brass wire creates a rich contrast with the glimmering blue background, infusing the piece with both rustic elegance and divine radiance. A perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and devotional art, this Radha-Krishna Tarkashi by Gaurav Shakya is not just décor — it is a timeless heirloom celebrating eternal love and sacred artistry.
