About the Artwork +

Ksauni  by Nisha Kumari is a tactile homage to the earth’s quiet poetry, a textile that gently grounds the viewer in the sacred simplicity of nature. Rooted in a palette of warm browns, muted terracottas, and soft ochres, it draws upon madder and iron earth ombré dyeing to achieve its raw, organic tonality. The canvas—crafted from a 55% hemp and 45% cotton blend—is meticulously hand-embroidered in humble Sujani stitches by artisans in Bihar, creating a surface that undulates like the fertile land itself. Each stitch mimics the rhythm of soil, stone, and field—some as dense as woven roots, others as sparse as wind-brushed ridges—forming an abstract yet instinctively familiar landscape. The curved patterns ripple across the textile- like ancient geological formations or hand-tilled farmland, revealing the intimacy between human labor and natural terrain. “Ksauni,” meaning “home ground” or “ancestral soil,” does not speak loudly—it whispers of belonging, stillness, and deep time. The texture invites not just sight but touch, engaging the viewer in a sensorial experience of memory and place. This piece, framed in dark wood, becomes a meditative object—its earthy elegance reminds us that beauty does not always announce itself; sometimes, it rests quietly beneath our feet, waiting to be noticed. More than just a textile, Ksauni is a conversation with the land, stitched one line at a time, echoing the ancient relationship between craft and nature, between the artisan and her earth.

Ombre dyed in madder and iron earth. Made in 55% hemp and 45% cotton blend. Hand embroidered with humble sujani stitches in Bihar.

Do Suta blue-tick

Do
Do Suta offers a vibrant collection of textiles that beautifully blend modern and contemporary aesthetics with the traditional art of Sujani. Sujani is a distinguished folk art form of embroidery with deep roots in Bihar, India. This unique craft, which received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2006 for its preservation, involves using a basic running stitch to meticulously join and layer pieces of cloth. Do Suta's textiles, often characterized by their cool colors, earthy appearance, and minimalism, evoke a serene essence. This feeling is beautifully captured as: "Under the soft caresses of crimson rays and the mellow scent of ripening mangoes, you'd see them dancing, washing troubles away in showers of the clear skies, blooming in the sky and fields like little patches of rainbow, their laughs fluttering like marigolds in the breeze. As they run through tall fields of wheat with their hair flying in soft waves, kindred ties and congenial friendships set the path where quiet happiness blooms."
