This captivating painting in the Tholu Bommalata art style by Sindhe Siva depicts a portrayal of Baby Krishna, a form of Lord Vishnu, who takes birth in the Dwapar Yuga to prevail justice.
Tholu Bommalata is originally a performative art style, where ‘tholu’ refers to leather, ‘bommalu’ refers to puppets, and ‘aata’ refers to play. This performative art is used for leather puppetry, which is popular in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. Over time, this performative art also took its place in painting and decorative art.
At the center of the composition, the head and the torso of Baby Krishna are rendered. The rendition is done in the most simplistic manner with crisp contour lines; no sophistication is attained. His facial expression is one of childlike innocence, looking at the viewer’s face. His facial features include the lotus-shaped eyes (kamal nayan) with double thin eyebrows, an elongated nose, and fuller lips with a protruding chin. In the midst of the forehead, he is adorned with tilak. He is embellished with an abundance of jewellery outlined with linear or U-shaped pencil impressions. Moreover, his headgear or crown is floriated, along with a moorpankh (peacock fan) and a long braid with floral motifs. Interestingly, this charming depiction of Baby Krishna holds no attribute, but his right hand touches the flowers, kept on a large circular plate, while his other hand is placed on his cheek.
The composition is filled with flowers, suggesting a shower of love and devotion on his charming form, while the backdrop is painted a striking black to create sharp contrast with his picture frame.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
