About the Artwork +

Renowned artist Dinesh Soni's Pichwai Painting, "Bani Thani in Kishangarh" transcends time and history, delving into the enchanting world of Rajput artistry. This piece unveils the captivating tale of Bani Thani, a gifted singer and poet who became the beloved companion of Raja Sawant Singh, then his wife. In their Vrindavan haven, symbolizing Radha Krishna's divine love, they found refuge. Commissioned by Raja Sawant Singh, the painting mirrors their love, reminiscent of Radha Krishna's devotion. The canvas breathes with vibrant hues of ruby, emerald, and gold, intricately weaving patterns and motifs, as if love itself dances in intricate symphony – a piece of eternal ardor.

Art Form

Pichwai art

The art of Pichwai originated over 400 years ago, illustrating tales of Shrinathji, an incarnation of Krishna, the deity manifest as a seven-year-old child. Prominent in th Nathadwara region of Rajasthan especially in the Vaishnavite sect, the paintings are hand-painted on cloth or paper and depict different scenes and stills - lotuses, Radha, Gopis and cows are also frequent subjects. What started as a religious practice, is an art today and finds place in the form of paintings and wall hangings in homes of many art connoisseurs.
